Cost varies based on several factors including the type and size of wood being used, any special materials or supplies I may need, and my hourly rate. I've been undercharging my work because I'm trying to get the word out as I'm relatively new. I'm currently charging $20/hour plus costs. Exotics and lumber larger than 8"x12" will require a deposit, based on the type of lumber you select the deposit will vary. Once I start getting busy, my price will be going up. I will update this answer when that occurs.
Yes. According to the Food and Drug Administration regulations, polyurethane and other clear wood finishes are food safe.
Cake decorations and culinary supplies made with Alumilite products are non-toxic, food safe, and comply with FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 for food contact.
This varies based on how many orders I have. Typically anywhere from 1 - 2 weeks for the sizes shown in my gallery, larger sizes - such as they Serynity Farms Sign - can take upwards of 3 - 4 weeks.
I sometimes need a break from engraving as after a bit the arthritis acts up, or the artistic energy just isn't flowing. When I need a break for longer than a week, I'll put a hiatus notification on the landing page so you are aware.
I will ship anywhere, but locations outside of the contiguous US will be responsible for all costs, insurances, and any Customs regulations and or fees, associated with shipping.
Within the contiguous US, I occasionally run free-ground shipping promotions.
In the Beaverton area, I will meet you at a neutral location and bring your project to you if you prefer, or you can swing by and pick it up.
No. Those are separate skills that I've yet to undertake. I hand-engrave these with a Dremel, and then paint the design black to give it contrast from the wood. I've been requested to use stain rather than paint for the design, and while I was hesitant, it did impart a more natural look to the finished product. So I'm open minded, now, about how I darken the design. But I do not have the proper tools to burn the wood at this point in time. Nor do I have the room for a CNC or a Router set up.
When I first began making Charcuterie Boards I stained some of the beginning models. Now, I leave them natural by default to showcase the inherent beauty of hardwood, with both Alumilite Resin and a warm gloss polyurethane overcoat for long-term protection. If gloss isn't your preference, I can easily do a satin finish instead.
Other styles, such as key racks, do not receive any Alumilite resin as there is no reason to seal the grooves. All boards receive several coats of Polyurethane unless requested otherwise.
If you enjoy the stained look, I'm happy to give them a coating or three in your choice of stain.
I had the vision since I was a teenager, but only started the craft in March of 2020. I continually try to improve my craft and challenge myself.
I began knitting around 2002, I don't quite remember exactly, so I've been knitting for about 20 - 21 years. I consider myself to be an intermediate knitter, as I am just beginning to create my own patterns and I still have a lot of advanced skills to learn such as lace and Fair Isle knitting.
My mom's battle with cancer inspired me to knit chemo caps and I also want to do Knitted Knockers. I didn't have time to make a chemo cap for my mom, but I do have time to help others who are experiencing baldness due to chemotherapy.
Our first charitable event begins on April 1. Don't let it fool you, we will be working our fingers off to knit as many hats as we can for a three-month stretch. During this time we will be accepting hat donations made with the yarns on our Approved Yarn Lists or our Wish Lists. We will gladly accept yarn donations in lieu of hats for those who do not have the time to knit along with us. All hats collected and made will be distributed to OHSU Knight Cancer Institute in Beaverton, Oregon.
We will take a short break to work on some personal projects and then will will start back up with NICU Blankets for OHSU Doernbecher's Children's' Hospital in Portland, Oregon.
Take a look at our Events schedule for an extended look at our knitting events.
Yes! We have one crochet person who is relearning how to knit and two knitters who are happy to share what they know, If you are local, get in touch and we can schedule some time to make sure you get the proper needles for the yarn you wish to use (be sure to check our Approved Yarn List) and set you up an appointment to come join us at our Clubhouse.
